Codpiece is a Homer Client. That is, it requires Homer to function. It's a Homer Client that allows two or more people to record, send and receive Macintosh sounds over the Internet Relay Chat system.
What this means is that you'll have to have Homer configured and connected to IRC to be able to use Codpiece.
Why "Codpiece," as a name? What does it mean?
I don't know. Nothing.
What's it like?
In a typical Codpiece session, you would already be running Homer. You would run Codpiece and open a sounds file (it comes with a Default Sounds file you can start with) and begin the session. At that point, there would be other people using Codpiece and perhaps there would be sound transfers underway. If you wanted to send a sound, select it from the list and press "Send." In moments, your sound would be received by other Codpiece users, played, and stored in their sound files. You can trade sounds with anyone who can use Homer anywhere in the world.
Getting Up and Running
Starting Up Codpiece
You must already have a connection to IRC through Homer. See the Homer documentation to learn how to establish a Homer connection to IRC if you don't already know how. Codpiece is a Homer Client which means that the Homer application must be running for Codpiece to function.
Run Codpiece. If this is the first time you've run Codpiece, it will ask you for your IRC Nickname which it will use to identify sounds that you send to other people. Once Codpiece is running, you will have to either select New from the File menu to create a fresh new empty Codpiece document, or you can select Open from the File menu to open an existing one. Codpiece comes with a Default Sounds file, which contains some useful and entertaining sounds which serve as a base from which Codpiece users can start.
Open up the Default Sounds file, and you will have a list of sounds before you. At this point, you can send, receive, record, and delete these sounds. Adding new sounds is as easy as just punching Record and going through the standard Macintosh Sound Recording technique as you would at the Sound control panel.
Sending a sound is as easy as selecting the sound from the list and pressing Send. Receiving is automatic.
